IVC Filter Lawsuit Attorney/

Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filters are supposed to prevent blood clots from entering the lungs. When patients are told they need a device like an IVC filter, they place their trust in the device’s manufacturer to provide a safe product.

Sadly, IVC filters have been linked to several health complications that could lead to serious injury or death. If you or a loved one has been implanted with an IVC filter and you’ve experienced health complications as a result, you might be able to receive compensation for the harm you’ve suffered.

IVC filter lawsuit attorney Jeff Green wants to make sure you get the payment you’re entitled to. Learn more about your legal options. Call (309) 699-0111 or fill out our online contact form and schedule a free consultation with Jeff Green.

WHAT IS AN INFERIOR VENA CAVA FILTER?
/

IVC filter lawsuit illustration of inferior vena cavaIVC filters are basket-like medical devices implanted via a catheter inside patients who have an increased risk for pulmonary embolism, which occurs when a blood clot gets caught in an artery of the lung. First developed in the 1970s, the earliest incarnations of IVC filters were designed to be implanted permanently in patients.

In the early 2000s, the use of IVC filters increased significantly after the Food and Drug Administration approved the use of retrievable filters. Retrievable IVC filters are intended to be removed once the risk of pulmonary embolism has passed, though many studies have shown that they are often left in place.

In 2010, the FDA issued a warning about the use of these devices, citing more than 900 adverse events related to the filters over a period of five years. Though use of these devices declined by nearly 30 percent following that warning, the use of IVC filters continued to be 25 times higher in the U.S. than in European countries. In other words, these devices were still widely used in the U.S., even though the medical community knew of the dangers associated with IVC filters.

Now, patients are being forced to contend with many health complications stemming from several risks associated with these devices. Complications could potentially arise during or after procedures, and they might also stem from procedures attempting to retrieve the filter device.
