3M COMBAT EARPLUGS LAWSUIT/
Hundreds of veterans across the U.S. are filing 3M Combat Earplugs lawsuits.
These veterans have suffered extensive hearing loss because Minnesota-based 3M Company sold defective earplugs to our military for over a decade.
Veterans deserve better. Attorney Jeff Green is meeting with veterans who are now suffering from hearing loss after the use of 3M Company’s dual-ended Combat Arms earplugs between 2003 and 2015.
If you or a loved one served our country and believe that your hearing loss was caused by these defective 3M combat earplugs, contact Jeff Green at (309) 699-0111 to schedule a free consultation.
HOW 3M COMPANY FAILED OUR SERVICE MEMBERS WITH DEFECTIVE 3M COMBAT EARPLUGS
Initially sold by Aearo Technologies, Inc., the dual-ended Combat Arms Earplugs, Version 2 (CAEv2) first became available in 2003. They were a promising piece of gear for our troops. One end of the devices was marketed as being capable of preventing hearing damage while still allowing troops the ability to hear what was happening in the field.
Unfortunately, these earplugs contained a critical flaw. According to the Department of Justice, the CAEv2 was “too short for proper insertion into users’ ears and that the earplugs could loosen imperceptibly and therefore did not perform well for certain individuals.” This was part of the argument that the DOJ made against 3M Company in a False Claims Act suit that resulted in a $9.1 million settlement.
The FCA lawsuit alleged that 3M Company, which acquired Aearo Technologies, Inc. in 2008, knew about the defects and failed to disclose the product’s deficiencies to the military. Now, hundreds or more of servicemembers are suffering extensive hearing loss because of 3M Company’s negligence.
SIGNS AND CONSEQUENCES OF HEARING LOSS/
Hearing loss impacts a sufferer’s life in several ways. Hearing loss puts lives at risk in the workplace and on our roads. It can greatly inhibit a person’s ability to sleep, which also creates several health risks.
Common signs of hearing loss include…
- Dampened or muffled sounds and speech
- Difficulties perceiving high-pitched noises
- Difficulties hearing voices in a noisy environment
- Increased sensitivity to certain sounds or frequencies
Tinnitus is the perception of certain sounds where none exist. For example, someone experiencing hearing loss might hear a hissing, ringing or buzzing sound when there is no such sound. This condition is considered a symptom of hearing loss, and it greatly affects sufferers, particularly during sleep. Tinnitus is the leading cause of disability among veterans, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs. More than 2.7 million veterans currently receive disability for this condition.

WHAT ARE THE 3M COMBAT EARPLUGS LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT AMOUNTS?/
There are several pending lawsuits against 3M Company, so it is still unclear how much any settlements might offer veterans. However, it’s possible that 3M Company could owe servicemembers substantial sums of money for the injuries they’ve suffered.
Though 3M Company settled the lawsuit with the Department of Justice, it admitted no liability. In fact, 3M Company still maintains that it did nothing wrong. Hundreds of servicemembers disagree. The final say on the matter will be determined through legal action.
